Lead Outsource Artist

As a Lead Outsource Artist you will drive and train external teams to become successful with producing full outsourced gameplay levels; including architecture, props, vehicles, weapons, VFX and characters, pushing your aesthetic and technical skills to the fullest.

Your interest lies in leadership and production. You are experienced and comfortable with all principles of art. You’re a good leader that people look up to and you can multitask, and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

You will collaborate with the internal art team, as well as report to the Outsource Manager/Art Producer, the project Art Director and Lead Artist.

On the external side you will work close with the Production Manager, Project Manager, Art Director, Discipline/Team Leads and the full art teams.

You will be required to spend most of your time abroad working onsite with the external teams.


  • Responsible for the entire content development of full gameplay levels, quality and functionality
  • Responsible for training/mentoring the external vendors to become successful fully outsourced levels
  • Establish internal and external production processes for fully outsourced levels
  • Identifying any gaps in team’s skill sets and development and create training programs for any skillsets needed
  • Manage the external team’s skill sets, and continue to develop processes, methods, and workflows
  • Produce detailed asset production documentation for the entire art sets, gather reference, work with concept artists and provide benchmark asset from production. Apply art pipeline processes, and engine requirements to all to support the external teams
  • Coordinate with the Outsource Manager/ Art Producer / Level Designers and External Project Manager to schedule and track production.
  • Work closely with the internal and external teams to ensure the art quality is consistent and cohesive with the art direction and game needs
  • Manage communications and provide feedback to artists. Help maintain a strong creative relationship between external and internal art teams
  • Establish internal review processes for the outsourcing teams to ensure that the assets provided to the dev team cope with the original requirements, both visually and technically, and ensure that the communication is spread all aboard the outsourcing company
  • Constantly and proactively seek to improve the production processes, tools and pipelines for multiple art discipline
  • Support the development of the external teams
  • Deliver the project on time, while respecting the allocated budget

To be successful in this position you have:

  • You are an organized and good leader, strategic, and thoughtful in all interactions with the internal and external teams and partners
  • An ability to train and mentor teams
  • Excellent experience in Maya, Photoshop and/or Quixel and/or Substance Painter and Z-Brush
  • In-depth experience with PBR workflows
  • In-depth understanding of real-time game development needs
  • Knowledge of effective asset creation, profiling and optimization
  • Great with time estimations, assessments and prioritizing
