Senior Engine Programmer
“Deliver fun worldwide”? Pretty good for a day’s work. At Starbreeze, we build ambitious cooperative games driven by strong technical foundations. Working side-by-side in our Stockholm studio, our engineering team brings together diverse perspectives to tackle complex systems, iterate quickly, and deliver standout experiences to millions of players worldwide. This position is full in-office based out of our Stockholm studio.
About the Role
We are looking for a person to drive technical excellence across our core systems. In this role, you’ll tackle high-octane technical execution, drive engineering quality, and optimize console performance to make sure our games run smoothly and look stunning, while ensuring our game architecture remains scalable and maintainable for long-term production.
While direct people management isn’t on your plate right away, you’ll serve as a beacon of mentorship and technical guidance for a killer team of engine and rendering engineers. As our team grows, there’s plenty of room for you to expand into formal leadership if that’s your path!
What You’ll Do
Architect and implement core engine systems, prioritizing low-level performance, memory efficiency, and console optimization.
Mentor fellow engineers, conduct code reviews, and establish engineering best practices across the discipline.
Maintain and evolve custom and forked UE4/UE5 engine branches, balancing new feature needs with architectural stability.
Collaborate closely with Technical Directors and production leads to evaluate feasibility and execute complex game features.
What You Bring
Strong C++ expertise and extensive hands-on experience with game engine architecture (UE4/UE5).
Proven track record of low-level console optimization, profiling, and multithreaded systems development.
At least one shipped title using Unreal Engine across PC and console platforms.
Clear communication, a collaborative mindset, and a commitment to helping engineering teams succeed.
